The Benue State Scholarship  Board was established in 1976 under the then Military Administrator of Benue State Lt. Col. Abulahi Shelleng and raised to its Present Status by Group Captain Joshua O. Obademi led government through an edict in 1994 saddled with the responsibility of:

Awarding of Scholarships to candidates of the state studying or intending to study in institutions of higher education both with and outside Nigeria;

Selecting and submitting to the Commissioner of Education names of persons from the state who satisfy the conditions for the award of scholarships to study in foreign countries;

Formulating, reviewing and initiating policies and programmes on the award of scholarships;

Advising the Commissioner of Education on any matter relating to the award of scholarships and

Determining the financial programme of the Board

12Isaac Igbe Ph.D 19/01/2017 – To Date

The Present Executive Secretary is Isaac Ityokyaa Igbe, Ph.D; Political Economist, administrator and a minister of the Gospel, was born in 1957 in a small village – Ikyobo, in Ushongo Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria.

Isaac Igbe, started his primary education at a tender age of six (6) at NKST Primary School, Aku and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1969.

He had his Secondary School education at the prestigious WM Bristow Secondary School, Gboko and obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1974 and holds a National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering from Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo in 1983.

He later proceeded to Benue State University, Makurdi where he obtained B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D in Political Science between 2003 – 2015 (specializing in Political Economy).

He is well published and some of his major academic works include: Neo – colonialism and the Global South Dependency, Globalization: Multinationals and The Nigerian Economy, The problem of Democratization in Nigeria: Corruption and Underdevelopment in Nigeria e.t.c

Isaac Igbe is a Senior Lecturer with Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies (ATCAPS) Makurdi, and is currently on leave of absence to Benue State Scholarships Board as the Executive Secretary.

He is happily married to Esther Igbe and are blessed with four (4) children.
